At the beginning of the tactical knife craze, there were two designs that set the bar for everyone else: The Timberline SpecWar and Aviator. These knives had modern American-tanto style blades, contoured injection molded handles, and some of the first factory kydex sheaths. Their distinctive look and style spawned a generation of American knife design, and inspired countless makers.
The smaller of the two, the Aviator was envisioned as the next generation pilots survival knife for the coming 21st century. Lightweight, with a strong blade, the Aviator was intended for hard use, at low cost to the user in weight and overall size.
